In depth

Verdict

A well-contested sprint in which several look to have decent claims. Longroom came to hand early last year and has won three times over track and trip. Royal Brave should find this easier than the Class 2 race he contested here last time. Rapid Applause beat Tanasoq at Beverley last week but carries a penalty in a better race and has been done no favours by the draw. Tommy G also steps up a grade but SUWAAN ran well at Doncaster last week and is fancied to reverse earlier Newcastle form with Pea Shooter. He gets the vote as though Lady Lydiate has an excellent strike-rate and produced another career-best on her reappearance at Ripon, she’s been drawn in the centre of the track and is better on ground with some give.
