In depth

Verdict

St Wilfrid gets the vote here ahead of The Pious Prince and Dand Nee. The selection was only narrowly beaten on his debut at Stratford in a race that has worked out well. He then built on that when scoring impressively at Uttoxeter back in October when be beat Farmer's Lad. He looks a useful prospect and with ground conditions to suit he sets the benchmark for the rest. Pious Prince was returning from a long break when finishing a fair fifth behind Cork All Star at Cheltenham last month. He is sure to strip fitter for that run and if he can reproduce his run at Ayr on his debut last season when he beat Nevertika then he should go close. Dand Nee has shown promise on both of her runs so far but she has been off the track for nearly a year and she may be best watched today. Guns And Butter is an interesting newcomer from a top yard and should be noted in the market, but for the winner we are happy to return to St Wilfrid.
