In depth

Verdict

Coat of Honour is a high-class recruit from the Flat and by all account has schooled well enough to make a winning start for new connections, with Donna's Double and Dolmur the pair taken to chase him home. Winner of a valuable handicap at Goodwood in the summer, Coat of Honour was stepped up in trip when sent to Down Royal in September and duly obliged. The object of the exercise was to prove that the son of Mark Of Esteem had plenty of stamina, and that will stand him in good stead in his new career with Howard Johnson. In Graham Wylie's colours, he could end up at the Cheltenham Festival if all goes well, but the long-term plan is to return to the level for a crack at the Ebor, so bear that in mind. The ex-Sir Mark Prescott inmate should simply outclass this lot, with fellow Flat recruit Donna's Double taken to chase him home. He was not in the same league as the selection on the level though and it will be a surprise if he finishes ahead of him. Dolmur was quite useful on the Flat in Ireland and should improve for his first outing on these shores at Sedgefield, but he and the rest will have their work cut out to stop Coat of Honour from making a successful debut.
