In depth

Verdict

A difficult finale with at least a dozen in with a chance, but we have narrowed it down to Neap Tide, Aesculus, Piccleyes and Distant Connection, with the former just getting the nod. Trained by John Gosden, the selection showed plenty of promise in three juvenile outings. You can ignore his first outing of the season as the jockey reported that he ran far to freely, with more restraint today we should see a different animal. Luca Cumani's Aesculus is improving with every outing and must enter calculations. Distant Conection comes here on the back of a recent victory at Sandown and should go well despite top-weight. Much lower down the handicap is Piccleyes who displayed plenty of promise last season to be given a chance here. So in conclusion a very open affair for which Neap Tide is a tentative selection.
