In depth

Verdict

Lee Miller was all out when taking a Pontefract maiden last month and Luca Cumani's filly does not look to be particularly well treated for her debut in a handicap so a better bet may be Saleima, who gets the vote with Rowan River rated the pick of the remainder. The selection ran over 1m4f in each of her first two starts this term but Peter Chapple-Hyam's filly clearly appreciated the drop back to this trip when chasing home Caprivi at Doncaster last time and she looks worth a bet to go one better here off what seems a fair mark. Paul Blockley's Friends Hope has shown a consistent level of form and should again be thereabouts but she may struggle to give weight away all round, while Alan King's Cosmea has more to do off her new mark then when winning at Windsor last month. James Fanshawe's Hepburn Bell looks to be going the right way and will hopefully be ridden with more confidence over this trip now that connections know that she stays after her run last time. She has to be respected but more solid claims are held by Tom Dascombe's Rowan River, who ran better at Windsor last time, and she has every chance provided that the ground continues to dry out. Saleima has plenty going for her though and Peter Chapple-Hyam's filly gets the verdict.
