Verdict

A winner over hurdles, Lieutenant Miller made a belated winning debut on the Flat last year but was well beaten in soft ground when attempting to follow up at Newmarket in November. There could still be more to come from him on the level and Sign Manual is another expected to improve for the longer trip, though he hasn't raced since June. Others looks more exposed including Bath winners Petaluma and Knox Overstreet, although Gilded Age is back on the same mark as when landing last year's renewal in testing ground. It was also heavy going when KLEITOMACHOS won over track and trip last summer but there may just be enough cut in the ground today for him to run his race and, with Richard Hughes taking over the reins, he can go very close off his current mark.
