Group Captain was a decent middle distance performer on the flat for Roger Charlton and is taken to make a winning start to his jumping career for Alan King, getting the verdict ahead of Jardin De Vienne and Desert Star. The last mentioned was also useful on the level and showed some respectable form from limited opportunities but he was unproven over further than a mile and is not certain to stay this trip over hurdles so may be best watched. James Fanshawe's Kingscape showed progressive form on the flat and could be of interest on his hurdling debut. Bumper winner Outlandish may find one of two of these too speedy for him and of more interest may be Noel Chance's Jardin De Vienne, who looks to be going the right way. Group Captain could be a decent recruit to the novice hurdling ranks though and he is preferred.
