In depth

Verdict

BALUSTRADE's form looks solid and he is preferred to Easter Meteor, Merehead and Kid Cassidy in what looks an interesting bumper. Chris Gordon's Barathea gelding ran well on debut at Fontwell, finishing fourth behind Sizing Santiago. That winner could be pretty decent and with that experience under his belt he is narrowly preferred. Easter Meteor is a brother to Easter Legend, Merehead wasn't a cheap purchase from France and needs a market check, whilst Pont Toto is related to several winners both on the flat and over hurdles. Robin De Creuse has so far disappointed, so a bigger threat may be Steel Bullet for a perennially underestimated yard. Nicky Henderson is well represented here, saddling both Pampelonne and Kid Cassidy. Neither has seen the track before but the booking of AP McCoy for the latter looks a big pointer and this half-brother to River City and Cane Ridge looks the stable first string. The market will help as ever, but preference is for Balustrade.
