Verdict

Pawn Broker, a winner of the Dubai Arc Trial at Newbury in 2000, rejoins David Elsworth for a hurdling campaign. Comfortable on a softer surface, he was rated at 114 at his peak but we will watch him on debut. Elsworth should at least have a fair idea of how good he is as Mersey Sound, another convert from the flat, makes the trainer double-handed on this occasion. Beyond The Pale ran well behind Rhinestone Cowboy in a bumper at Cheltenham earlier in the season. The suspicion is that he probably prefers it faster and we'll leave him alone here. We'll take a chance at bigger prices on Derivative. Rated 108, he has been tried in decent company in the past and few could begrudge him at win at this level. He was a close-up third on soft ground last time out and that is good enough for us. Sento won a bumper on fast ground and today's conditions could not be more different.
