Verdict

Decent race this but ultimately tricky to call with the verdict narrowly landing in the saddle of LIE FORRIT ahead of Grand Theatre and Mortimers Cross. There's not much to split the leading contenders here but the selection's beating of now highly rated hurdler Ernst Blofeld in a bumper in November reads as very strong form. His two victories since, the latest on handicap debut, have been impressive enough and he looks to be fairly treated. Grand Theatre was a nine length winner in a novice event last time. We don't yet know how strong that race will prove to be but considering his previous efforts he looks off a good rating. Mortimers Cross looks high in the weights at the moment but has been running well in this sphere over the winter. Magical Legend finally got it right last time after being out classed in better races to take a similar contest to this over distance at Musselburgh last time. He'll have to prove that was no fluke but he is capable in better company than he faces here. Sheriff Hutton's run of solid results should have him in the mix but his high mark will probably prevent victory so in the best race of the day we side with Lie Forrit.
