Verdict

The Varlet is the selection here with Pavement Gates and Sovereign Dreamer the best of the rest. The Varlet lost by a neck to Pavement Gates last time at Haydock but is weighted to reverse the placings and looks the one to beat. Pavement Gates was given an enterprising ride in that race but only just held on as The Varlet hit top gear inside the final furlong. The Marcus Tregoning charge had been caught slightly flat-footed as Pavement Gates kicked clear in front and also had to overcome traffic problems in trying to get to the winner. With a clear run The Varlet should take all the beating here. Sovereign Dreamer is the other worthy of consideration after a good run last time, but the frontrunning tactics of this one could work in the favour of our selection, and we are happy to stick with The Varlet.
