Verdict

Barry Hills would surely love to win this race, one named in honour of his 2004 Guineas winner Haafhd, and has live claims of doing so in the shape of White Frost, who showed when second on debut that he should pick up a race soon. However, in MARDEN he may bump into a smart rival. Brian Meehan's juveniles always improve for a run so the fact that this well-related Danehill Dancer colt took fourth on his debut, showing he copes with cut, suggests he should be hard to beat here. It's significant that he holds an entry in the Racing Post Trophy and he can go some way to justifying it. Of course there are a host of newcomers to consider including the other Hills runners Canna and Encore Un Fois alongside the William Haggas-trained trio of Garde Cotiere, Groomed and Quails Hollow. Likewise Short Takes and Bridgefield need noting in the market and an improved display from Misk Khitaam would come as no surprise, but Marden's experience may prove telling.
