Verdict

Myplacelater's rating is based on her defeat of Wigmore Hall at Doncaster but she may be slightly flattered by that and is worth opposing; we'll do so by siding with the long-absent ALWAARY. John Gosden's charge hasn't been seen since finishing well beaten in the Voltigeur last year so there have to be concerns about his fitness, although they are in part negated by the current form of the yard. If he's straight enough to put in a performance close to his unlucky second to Doctor Freemantle last season this race is his to lose, as a rating of 117 indicates. Wajir represents last year's winning trainer but he hasn't scored since joining him and was well beaten at Chester, Classic Punch fared well at Kempton when ahead of Man Of Iron and behind a subsequent Group Three winner but he's arguably just shy of this level and would struggle against a fully-fit Alwaary as would Dreamspeed who himself returns from a sizeable enough break, although he did get through heavy ground okay when last out.
