Verdict

A typically tough race to end the card with and Thyolo is only a tentative choice to lead the field home here. There are numerous dangers though and the likes of Mudawin, Granston and Mount Vettore are just three of a handful that have shown progressive enough form to merit a second look today. So too has Fancy Foxtrot, who confirmed the promise of his fifth in the Coventry Stakes when winning a maiden at Lingfield on his reappearance. However, like a few others in the field, he needs to find a little more if he is to follow up today and support for Brian Meehan's charge may be best limited to each-way money. Therefore, we return to Thyolo for win only purposes in this tricky handicap to fathom. The Clive Cox-trained colt had a choice of entries this week and comes here instead of an easier option at Doncaster tomorrow. However, he was very progressive last season and can justify his trainer's high opinion of him by getting his season off to a flyer here. Cox' yard have made a fair start to the campaign and a market move for Thyolo should not be ignored.
