First Sitting won this back in 2016. He was still good enough to win in Listed company last year but hasn’t looked the force of old so far this season and the rest have something to prove in this grade including Waldstern. The latter is fitted with a visor after another below-par run, albeit in Group 3 company, while Victory Chime is upped in class having won at Sandown recently. Howman is another facing a stiffer task after placing at Newcastle on last month’s belated reappearance while Eynhallow hasn’t raced since last summer. DESERT ICON returned a disappointing favourite over 1m4f at Goodwood but is better than that. The Haggas colt gets another chance in a tricky contest back on fast ground and returning to today’s shorter trip.

Waldstern 11-1 (9-1) Slowly into stride, in rear, headway 2f out, ridden over 1f out, faded inside final furlong, 6th of 9, 12 3/4l behind Spanish Mission (9-1) at Newmarket 1m 5f Grp 3 stks (1) gf in Jul.
