Verdict

A big field for this opener and the leading protagonists look to be Multakka, Leningrad, Louie Louie and Giganticus, and we will side with Giganticus. The BarryHills-trained selection won a Haydock maiden last September and showed up well here when beaten by Levera over 7f here at the Craven meeting. Last time out he got a dreaded high draw in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot and ran well considering, although he was ultimately well behind the leaders. That may lead to a false price about him here and with conditions to suit and his yard in form we'll take a plunge on him. Multakka has become frustrating to follow, finishing placed in six of his seven starts. He's gone up in the weights as a result, but he is clearly in good shape and would not be winning out of turn. Leningrad has been highly tried by Michael Bell since an easy debut win at Lingfield, but will clearly appreciate this drop in class from Group and Listed company and off this mark he should not be far away, while Louie Louie is stepped back up to a mile after landing a less competitive event over 7f at Sandown last time and he is interesting. But Giganticus has a fair bit going for him here and is our suggestion.
