      Verdict

Back down to a mark of 76, MY MATE MAX may be good enough to win this stayer's handicap which is thin on entries, while Curacao and Rockfella are feared. The last-named does not look bred for this far, and has done most of his winning over 1m 4f. However, after a decent run over this trip at Goodwood he looks well worth another try, and the potentially moderate pace here will help him to get home. Curacao is 1lb higher than when scoring on fast ground over this trip at Salisbury a year ago and has run some very good races in defeat from higher marks. He looks very competitive. Akbabend has looked exposed over 1m 4f so Mark Johnston steps him up in trip and being out of a Shirley Heights mare he may well get this trip. Judgethemoment is gradually being given a squeak by the assessor and money for him would be interesting, but My Mate Max is preferred. Fast ground suits, he stays at least this far and a 3lb drop will help, so we will side with him.
