In depth

Verdict

The Aldbury Flyer is selected here ahead of Brief Goodbye and James Caird. Due to go up by three pounds in future ratings following his narrow course and distance defeat on May 18th, The Aldbury Flyer looks to have solid claims for this contest and can go well. Given that he is just a pound above his Haydock Park winning mark of last September, and that he has had a couple of runs this season, Brief Goodbye could be set to go well here. James Caird has become disappointing but he ran pretty well at Windsor last time over a shorter trip than today and his dropping mark is at least giving him a chance. Pagan Sword is back to a winning mark of September 2005 but he has become a bit inconsistent of late. French import Kervriou is hard to assess, as is Khun John, who comes into this on the back of three-successive all-weather wins but his profile is a progressive one and he has to be considered. Bobby Charles is now on a winning mark, although that came in 2005 on heavy going. Del Mar Sunset ran pleasingly following a break last time and is another that could go well, while, finally, Prince Charlemagne would hold a good chance based on his winning Turf form of a year ago but more-recent efforts have lacked the same sparkle. Once again, then, the vote goes to The Aldbury Flyer.
