In depth

Verdict

It certainly does not get any easier for punters in this wide open division of this particular maiden but we will tentatively suggest NOTICE GIVEN to come good for Henry Cecil, while there are plenty more to talk about. Nizaa is one of those. He stayed on well up the Pontefract hill on debut and will appreciate the extra furlong now and he can improve to take a close hand. Suited And Booted perhaps didn't come on as much as expected last time and looks best watched, and debutant Suntrap is bred to do better at three and beyond. The same goes for Treble Jig, although the Gone West colt looks likely to have plenty of ability and can go well on his first run. Royal Patriot represents a yard going well and is related to juvenile success, so he may well be capable of picking up some prize money at the first attempt. Pekan Star is also bred in the purple and is another one to note for Michael Jarvis, whose strike rate is good with his few two-year-olds runners so far. Painswick is another newcomer of note from a stable that is firing on all cylinders and he should handle conditions and trip as a starting point, while Moonbalej is bred, like many of these, to be successful over middle distances next year, but he may still be good enough to have a big say at two. Lyric Poet is another American-bred Godolphin contender for whom this trip should be ideal, although he would have to prove he handles fast turf going. He is nonetheless hugely respected from a team in tremendous form. To the selection then, and Notice Given was well enough regarded to be sent off favourite in a 7f Yarmouth maiden last month, but ran no sort of race. Pedigree suggests that the soft ground was against him that day, and that on this faster surface which will suit much better, he is worth another chance. By Oasis Dream, he is related to plenty of juvenile winners and the stable's two-year-olds are having a superb campaign, so we will hope he can run to his capabilities now.
