Verdict

As on Monday the stalls on the straight course were on the stands' side and there appeared to be no bias regarding the draw. Quite a competitive opener with Effervesce setting a fair standard, however, she is well exposed and has been held off this mark in the past, so it may pay to stick with one of the three-year-olds. Aries and Milly Fleur look the pair to concentrate on with the latter getting the nod. Rae Guest's filly is clearly open to plenty of improvement, having just had the three outings to date, and on her maiden win at Salisbury she doesn't look to have been harshly treated by the Handicapper, who has allotted her a mark of 72. She has the advantage of the rails to help and will take plenty of pegging back. Aries is sure to be all the sharper for her return to action at Chepstow, where she found the stiff mile beyond her. She will be better suited by a return to this trip. Effervesce will need plenty of luck from her outside draw, as she does need to be dropped in and come with a late run, while the back-to-form College Queen will again be wearing the blinkers, which appeared to spark a revival last time. Whether they will have the same effect, we shall have to wait and see, but she has the added bonus of Darryll Holland on board, and as he is making the effort to come down from York, she is worthy of respect. Of the others, Starbeck, who pulled far too hard at Newmarket last weekend, may do better over this shorter trip, which should enable her to settle better, but Milly Fleur is taken to strike a blow for the three-year-olds.
