In depth

Verdict

First Cry gets the vote over Rossclaire and Ballyhurry, with Slavonic worth a mention on his debut over timber. First Cry looked one to follow when a close second on his bumper debut at Kelso last year, and has been very lightly-raced since, having had just the two runs. He encountered cut in the ground when runner-up to Lowsha Green at Hexham on what was his first outing since February, and will be all the better for the run, so in what is not a strong race, he should take the beating under Tony Dobbin. Rossclare has plenty of experience, but the Irish raider has a tendency to find at least one too good, while Ballyhurry is fit from the Flat but has yet to convince over timber. Slavonic was plating-class on the level, and the former Kevin Ryan inmate will be all the better for this education, with preference much for First Cry.
