In depth

Verdict

Castlemainvillage is the closest thing to being the 'form horse', so is a speculative choice in an utterly weak contest. War Pennant has claims on the best of his efforts, so has to merit consideration as an alternative, while stablemates Cloonavery, Hidden Talents and Lightening Fire should also play their parts and support for either in the betting ring would be interesting. Jockey bookings suggest the first of Bernard Llewellyn¿s named runners is the preferred option from the yard. War Pennant drops into a seller for the first time and has very little to prove at this level. Still, he can be an awkward ride and Phillip Hide will certainly earn his riding fee today. Therefore, with all things taken into consideration, Castlemainvillage looks the most reliable option on this occasion. The eight-year-old comes here on the back of his best effort over hurdles to date and he does not need to raise his game by much to land the modest prize-money that is on offer.
