Verdict

A typically wide open Showcase sprint handicap with a number of leading contenders but Smart Hostess is just preferred.. The John Quinn-trained filly has enjoyed a profitable campaign on the all-weather this winter with back-to-back wins over this trip at Southwell and Wolverhampton and showed that she is just as effective back on turf when a close fifth in a competitive event at Ripon last time. Mick Channon's Najeebon is the least exposed in the field and looks the type to progress further this term but, along with Loyal Tycoon, he faces no easy task from his wide draw. Midnight Parkes proved a progressive type last term with wins at Ripon and over course and distance. His form tailed off towards the backend when the ground was testing but should be given another chance on this quicker surface while Legalis has relatively few miles on the clock and may prove capable of going close iof fit following an absence.
