Verdict

Hugh Collingridge's Baan never lived up to his expectations after a promising start to his career for Mark Johnston losing his way over the last couple of years and he looks best watched in a race taken to go to MARKINGTON, who is preferred to Ragamuffin Man. William Knight's gelding has only won once from 13 starts but has shown a reasonable level of form since being stepped up in trip, latterly in the Cesarewitch Trial at Newmarket and he has to be respected racing off a 1lb lower mark today. Having had some awful luck with his jumpers last week, Micky Hammond deserves a change of fortune and his runner, Terenzium, is not without a chance of following up his recent Hamilton success but faster ground and a 6lb rise in the weights may prevent him from scoring again. Emerald Hawk is open to improvement after just four starts but needs to improve to trouble the judge and a safer option looks to be Markington. Peter Bowen's gelding was in good form in the summer, winning three races on the bounce but he paid the penalty at the hands of the handicapper for those successes and was well held when last seen on the flat at Goodwood the following month. He has been dropped 5lbs since that outing though and with recent runs over hurdles likely to have put him spot on for this, Markington looks worth chancing.
