Oberlin justified odds of 1/2 when landing a Southwell maiden for Mark Johnston in February and he has to be respected on his first start for new connections today but the cut in the ground is of concern for the son of Gone West and preference is for Silver Waters, who gets the vote over Al Azy. The last mentioned showed gradual improvement in maidens as a two-year-old, ran promisingly on his reappearance and may do better now handicapped. Hugh Morrison's Stow looks to be going the right way and should handle the cut in the ground but he is far from certain to stay this far. Prince's Decree could be of interest on his handicap debut but is another that is not certain to get the trip and preference is for Silver Waters. David Elsworth's colt has shown gradual improvement in maidens, should appreciate the longer trip today and looks to be reasonably well treated for his debut in a handicap.
