In depth

Verdict

Major Mac, the only three-year-old in the line-up, took advantage of heavy ground to land a poor handicap at Chepstow so any further rain would greatly aid his cause. Merchant Of Medici completed a hat-trick in early summer and after a poor run at Redcar last time is now just 4lb higher than his last winning mark. Syncopate is 7lb higher than his last winning mark but the lightly-raced Chauvelin showed that there are more races to be won with him with a close second at Salisbury. In the expectation of more rain easing the ground, BULAS BELLE (NAP) is handed the vote. A winning hurdler, she was having just her second start since December when narrowly beaten over 1m6f at Catterick and with that under her belt can make her light weight count.
