Verdict

There is little to choose between Mick Channon's two runners in this conditions race with Hortensia marginally preferred to Saucy Buck but both may have to settle for minor honours in a contest taken to go to PREMIER CLARETS. Richard Fahey's colt was good value for his win in an auction maiden at Haydock last month and showed improved form when a close up third behind High Award in the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom, form on which he looks the one to beat. Kevin Ryan's Drawing Board has won each of his two starts at Leicester and Newcastle but this is tougher and his winning run is likely to come to an end. Clive Brittain's Planet Waves won well at Nottingham but was outclassed in the Coventry Stakes last time and looks best watched. Howard Johnson's Defence Council looks to be going the right way and has to be considered following his narrow win at Ripon but Premier Clarets has plenty going for him and is hard to oppose.
