Verdict

This is a competitive maiden with a number of leading Southern yards sending raiders and they should hold sway. NATIVE RULER was all the rage for his maiden and can recoup losses with Cherish The Moment and Ottoman Empire amongst those that should be challenging. The Cecil trained colt was a mover in the Derby market before taking a step on the racecourse and his supporters will have been disappointed that he couldn't land his maiden at the Craven meeting. However, hype aside, it was a perfectly respectable debut from this half-brother to Sixties Icon and he's the one that they have to beat. Ottoman Empire made his debut at headquarters a day later over a mile and caught the eye staying on to finish a two length fifth and he was not unsupported in the ring. He has an Irish Derby entry and can make his presence felt. Cherish The Moment lacks the big race entries of that pair but he has shown a fair level of form in his two starts and should continue to progress; he rates a live danger. Highland Glen is a well bred individual who should come into his own over middle distances and his trainer's strike rate at the track is near one in three so he's worth a second look but Native Ruler will be all the rage.
