In depth

Verdict

Four-year-olds have won this for the past two years and runaway Ballinrobe maiden winner Bercasa is the only one from that age group here. Feeling The Love completed a hat-trick on good ground last summer but the going may have gone against her on her first start since August. Ben Pauling sends Shanroe Tic Tec from the UK and he won't mind the conditions though the assessor may have a grip on him after his hat-trick in minor company. Le Vagabond hasn't run over hurdles for a year but was only beaten a head at Dundalk in March but Curious Times takes on much stronger company after his Down Royal maiden success. Kilkeaskins First made all for a very easy victory on heavy going at Tramore, though that was over 2m5f. Tony Martin's pair at the foot of the weights, Share The Honour and Sil Ver Klass, are greatly respected, as is Willie Mullins' lightly-raced Cool Colonnade, who makes his handicap debut but JON ESS returned after a break to score on the Flat at Cork before a narrow defeat in a big field at Fairyhouse. He probably wouldn't want any more rain but looks well enough treated to gain his first victory over timber.
