In depth

Verdict

Sonny Red would eat these for breakfast if able to reproduce his second in last year's Ayr Silver Cup but ended last term finishing last of nine in claiming company and starts off at the same level here. He'd win on a going day but may just need this first run since October and DARK LANE appeals as a safer option for the in-form Fahey-Hanagan team. The gelding battled on well to score at Windsor before a slightly disappointing effort in a fair handicap at this venue when last seen and should be highly competitive at this lesser level. Stable companion, Northern Dare, and Thrust Control complete the shortlist.
