In depth

Verdict

Richard Hannon's Assertive showed plenty of promise first time out and should improve but preference is for the more experienced Bel Cantor, who gets the vote ahead of Orchard Supreme. The last mentioned is a stablemate of Assertive and the son of Titus Livius makes his debut today but looks to be the second string judged by jockey bookings. Mick Channon's Ajigolo disappointed on his first start at Good wood and is probably best watched at present, while Sunrise Safari showed promise in the soft at Bath first time out but now encounters a much faster surface. Strong Approach is entitled to strip fitter for his first run as the stable's horses normally improve with racing, while a market move for Mujood would be of interest. Bel Cantor sets a decent standard though having found just one too good in a Yarmouth maiden on his debut before finishing a creditable fourth in Chester's Lilly Agnes Stakes last week. A reproduction of that effort may suffice.
