Verdict

Kieren Fallon is a rare jockey booking for Mark Johnston and the hint is taken with Torrens, who is just preferred over previous winners Briannsta and Bathwick Finesse, who can give him the most to think about. Chapter is another that is going the right way for a race like this and merits consideration off a mark of 77 against those towards the top of the race card. Scarlet Invader, for one, looks very harshly assessed on what he has achieved so far and he will do very well to give weight to all bar one of his rivals. Sir Monty will be of interest if the earlier races indicate that his position on the stands' side will not be a hindrance and he is one to carefully monitor in the betting, while Briannsta was a game winner last time and will not go down without a fight if he repeats the effort today. Bathwick Star was allowed the run of the race when scoring at Chepstow and ran out a worthy winner in the end. She had a couple of well regarded types in behind her on that occasion and has to be feared; despite having plenty of weight for her handicap debut. Nevertheless, Torrens also showed a very good attitude for a scrap when he won at Chepstow and, with an allowance factored in for the soft going on that occasion, he makes plenty of appeal on similar ground today. Factor in the champion jockey's profitable record when riding for the yard and the case for Torrens is too compelling to ignore.
