Verdict

One of a number of bad staying contests that are filling the racing programme at present but we will try GO FREE at the expense of Drum Major and Colonel Flay. John O'Shea's charge is rated just 45 but it could be a case that he is well in as he had rated 110+ over hurdles during the summer. Drum Major does not stay two miles but had shaped with promise over 1m5f under similar going. Colonel Flay was third off this mark in a similar contest and does at least appear to be holding his form. Top Ticket was much higher rated when trained by David Simcock and has been handed a significant drop since joining David Pipe. Regal Angel and Whaxaar are better known to followers of all weather racing. Theologist is from a stout middle distance family though appears not to be particularly able on what we have seen thus far. Crocus Rose seems to have improved for stepping up in trip and did not do too much wrong when finding one too good on heavy going at Haydock. A race where bets are recommended at minimum stakes and for the winner, Go Free is put forward in acknowledgement of that.
