In depth

Verdict

A competitive race to commence proceedings, and we just give the vote to Flight Of Esteem, with Barry Island and Fast Foil the main dangers. Peter Harris' gelding has been in great form this year and was not beaten far in a better race than this at Goodwood last time. Darryll Holland is an interesting jockey booking for this stable and he looks the biggest danger to Barry Island. The latter takes a drop in grade after a close third at Sandown two weeks ago, will be suited by today's conditions and the David Elsworth stable remains in form. Fast Foil was in great form last season, but has struggled from a high handicap mark this year. Suited by today's conditions and with the Mick Channon stable in good form, he cannot be ruled out, but is still on a higher mark than when winning last term. So Flight Of Esteem gets the vote.
