In depth

Verdict

Recent course winner Mersey Sound would probably prefer a faster surface and is probably best left out of calculations in a race that is taken to go to Master Wells, who is preferred to Bobsleigh and Scott. The last mentioned handles cut in the ground perfectly well and has slipped to a fair mark but has yet to rove his effectiveness over today's trip so may be best watched. Rod Millman's Nina Fontenail has run well on a soft surface before but is probably better on fast ground and probably needs some help from the handicapper anyway. My Legal Eagle by comparison has slipped back to a fair mark and does go with cut in the ground so he rates a bigger threat than Saffron Fox, who has given little sign of encouragement in recent starts. Bobsleigh won on soft ground over hurdles but is probably better on a faster surface and preference is for Master Wells, who showed signs of a revival at Catterick last time and now has his favoured soft ground. The son of Sadler's Well is taken to make a winning debut for his new trainer James Unett.
