Verdict

RIO RONALDO is one for whom everything needs to fall right but ran well here on his penultimate start, finishing fast and late, before scoring with something to spare at Salisbury last week. This is tougher but he's clearly in great heart at present and could well defy his mandatory 6lb penalty if things go his way. He's a course and distance winner too and is building a good relationship with Andrea Atzeni. Blue De Vega has his fair share of weight but has been contesting hot sprints and should appreciate this drop in grade and a smaller field. Open Wide was a convincing scorer at Salisbury in mid-June and has come to hand nicely this term. Jim Crowley retains the partnership and a 6lb rise for that success should not rule him out as he looked to win with something to spare that day.
