In depth

Verdict

James Fanshawe's Warden Complex looked a shade unlucky at Ascot last time and has to be respected off the same mark today but preference is for Granato, who gets the verdict over Flip Flop And Fly. The selection is trained by Alec Stewart, whose string has been running into form recently as emphasised by the three-year-old's improved display at Newmarket last time. The drop from a mile to seven furlongs should suit the son of Cadeaux Genereux and the booking of Kieren Fallon is another positive. Sylvester Kirk is another trainer to have his horses in good form at present and Flip Flop And Fly should be better suited by the ground conditions this evening than the softer surface he ran on at Salisbury last time. Colour Wheel disappointed at Ascot last time and is strictly held by Warden Complex on running that day. Go Bananas faces no easy task on his belated reappearance and of more interest may be Paul Cole's Peter Paul Rubens who ran well for one so inexperienced when fifth in the Buckingham Palace Stakes last time. He runs here in preference to a more competitive handicap back at Ascot this weekend and has to be respected off the same mark as at the royal meeting. Granato suggested at Newmarket that there would be more to come from him though and he gets the vote.
