In depth

Verdict

We are going to keep faith with Unshakable here ahead of, mainly, Flying Express and Highland Reel. The selection has always shaped like he has a big race in him and, after finishing eighth in the Lincoln, he travelled well for a long way in the 10-furlong Roseberry Stakes 14 days ago, and the form of that race has since been franked. This drop to a mile - he is a course and distance winner - looks ideal for him, and he rates a solid choice. Flying Express is stepping up to eight furlongs for the first time and, with improvement expected from a promising Newmarket run, he can go well too. Highland Reel is capable on his day and, given that he is rated just one-pound higher now than for his latest win, is another whose chance cannot be dismissed. Of the others, there is no doubt that Nuit Sombre, who could go well fresh, is well handicapped on his best form, while Jazz Messenger is the type to continue improving this year, but he lacks a recent outing. While Certain Justice and Soyuz are closely weighted on their recent Windsor runs, they probably have to improve a little on the bare level of the form of that race to score today. For us, then, there is no getting away from Unshakable, who gets the vote.
