In depth

Verdict

This could be narrowed down to two in FORTUNI and Magical Destiny with the vote going to the former. Sir Mark Prescott's Montjeu colt has shown ability in two starts to date, including when second recently to Sonning Gate at Lingfield. He drops back in trip today but his trainer knows the time of day and at track he does well at, it may be worth siding with his runner today. City Bank is nicely bred but has shown very little in two starts to date; the drop in trip and a first run on this surface may bring about improvement and the market may help guide to his chance. Black Attack has been exposed as moderate, whilst Magical Destiny ran a fair race on debut at the track in November and should have learnt plenty from that. Spartan Prince looks the most interesting of the newcomers, and any market support for this $145,000 purchase should be noted, however it is Fortuni who gets the vote.

Formwatch

Black Attack (IRE) 33-1 (9-5) Chased leader, led 3f out to 2f out, kept on until weakened final furlong, 6th of 12, 7l behind Dream Huntress (9-0) at W'hampton 1m 1f 2yo hcp (6) pol.

City Bank (USA) 10-1 (9-3) Slowly into stride, in rear, driven and struggling halfway, 12th of 14, 22l behind Call It On (9-3) at Windsor 1m 2yo mdn (4) gs in Oct.

Fortuni (IRE) 7-2 (9-3) Settled in rear, headway over 1f out, stayed on well final furlong to take 2nd towards finish, not trouble winner, 2nd of 11, 1 1/2l behind Sonning Gate (9-3) at Lingfield 1m 2yo mdn (5) pol in Nov.

Magical Destiny (IRE) 5-1 (9-3) Slowly away, detached and early reminders, still last entering final 2f, ridden and stayed on strongly final furlong, better for race, 5th of 10, 6l behind Moon Lightning (9-1) at Southwell 7f 2yo mdn auc (6) fbs in Nov.

Spartan Prince (USA) Mr Greeley colt out of Yalta.

Thurston (IRE) 66-1 (8-6) Close up, hung badly right entering straight 2f out, soon weakened and eased, last of 8, 29l behind Cool Art (9-2) at Lingfield 7f 2yo clm (6) pol in Nov.
