In depth

Verdict

The Southwell card finishes with a big field bumper where it should pay to follow the top trainers. Both Jonjo O'Neill and Alan King are represented by nice types but its George Baker's MAWSEN who gets the vote. This will be his third try in bumpers after finishing second on both starts. He has showed definite ability in all starts and if coping with three runs in a relatively short space of time he should go close. The fact that he is taking on older horses is slightly off putting but he does have some decent form. Purrfect Hero represents a powerful yard that do very well at this track so he must be monitored after a pleasing debut in a decent race 136 days ago. Ruling Party ran well in very testing conditions on debut and is also from a top yard so must be respected. Alan King is also represented by Rivermouth who is nicely bred so he is also worth a market check. Alan Swinbank has a cracking record in these events so his Spring Show is very interesting along with good form Irish raider Tammys Hill. Countoten and Cherry Star are also worth considering in a wide open contest.
