In depth

Verdict

COMMANDER is a progressive colt who could have been underestimated on his handicap debut. Roger Varian's Frankel colt fought back in game fashion to land a Doncaster maiden and his trainer must believe there's more to come as he's fitted him with blinkers. Night Circus got off to a winning start at Newmarket and has his sights lowered here after finishing last in a Listed contest on a return visit. Thomas Cranmer won a couple of races at Musselburgh in the spring and has since run in very tough handicaps at Newmarket and Ascot but Original Choice is up 3lb for finishing runner-up at Haydock. Mutahaady, who completed a hat-trick in September, bounced back to winning ways at Redcar though he hasn't won at this level. The remaining pair are not without chances in a very open handicap.
