Verdict

Any of the scheduled six runners could win this, but our preference is for ROMAN REPUBLIC, ahead of Mull of Killough and Makhaaleb. Roman Republic improved from debut to win last time out, albeit back in October. He cost 200,000 Guineas and is a son of Cape Cross, and similar hold-up tactics may be employed again, in what's his handicap debut. The Johnston yard is in fine form and he does well at one of his local circuits. Mull of Killough is having just his second outing and has come straight into handicap company after winning a modest maiden at 50 to 1 last month. This contest may prove how good he is; nothing as yet has come out of that contest behind him to frank the form. Makhaaleb remains a maiden after five outings; the step down in trip looks to be a positive move, and he ran OK on his seasonal debut after being gelded and with the blinkers off. being drawn in stall one can help our selection though, and that's Roman Republic.
