      Verdict

A race full of imponderables where fitness for the task is just one of the issues that has to be taken on trust as the likes of Maghanim, Lady Mytton and Mysterinch all have absences of just over a year to overcome. Whereas Gala Sunday may need the run on his first start for Mick Easterby after showing plenty of promise for Barry Hills earlier in his career. Therefore, it may pay to concentrate on Selective, who edges a narrow preference over Mine as he has the better record when he is fresh. The Alec Stewart-trained selection did not enjoy the best of luck in his races after he ran a blinder in finishing second to Pablo in last year's Lincoln Handicap however, he did maintain a good level of form and has excellent claims on the terms of this contest. Heretic is another that has form that ties in with a couple of these and is expected to be thereabouts at the finish. However, he has a 3lb penalty to carry today - which may be the difference between defeat and victory once Selective starts to motor near the finish.
