Verdict

Robustian has been knocking at the door and can come out on top over the improving Avelian, with Azurine likely to go well. Robustian has been placed on a number of occasions since gaining his sole win at Doncaster 12 months ago, and we are going to give him one more chance to prove that he is not a professional loser. Fulke Johnson-Houghton stepped him up to 12 furlongs at Windsor last time, and once again he seemed to throw away a winning opportunity as he hung right near the finish. The ability is there though, and with no problems regarding the fast ground, he can prove up to defying topweight. Avelian stayed on well enough behind the odds-on Mabadi at Chester to suggest that the move up to 12 furlongs will be an advantage, so he rates the main danger ahead of Azurine who at least gets the fillies' allowance. For the winner we return to Robustian.
