Verdict

German import First Point belied market odds when making an encouraging debut for Nicky Henderson at Newbury last month and the five-year-old has to be respected but preference is for Freddie The Third, with Masked Man rated the pick of the remainder. The selection showed a decent level of form in bumpers and looked like making a winning debut over hurdles before falling at the last over course and distance last month. Freddie The Third subsequently lost no caste in defeat behind Breedsbreeze in the Tolworth Hurdle and a reproduction of that effort may well suffice. Captain Tidds made a pleasing debut over timber at Folkestone recently and has to be respected with Richard Phillips back among the winners, while Majaales may want the ground to be faster to show his best form. Strath Gallant has more to do than when successful at Fairyhouse last time and of more interest may be Masked Man. The French import has the benefit of experience of hurdling in his native country and is now in the care of Alan King so has to be considered but a safer bet looks to be Freddie The Third, who gets the vote.
