In depth

Verdict

Top-weight Moon Glow will not mind the prevailing faster conditions but with a long absence to defy, it may pay to look elsewhere. Monte Cristo's second to Azertyuiop catches the eye but the winner didn't break sweat on that occasion. On the form book, Lavinia Taylor's gelding has to be given a chance but his tendency to hit flat-spots in his races and an undoubted preference for cut in the ground make him opposable today. Red Raja's recent third looks good on paper but doesn't demonstrate how far behind the winner he was. A 66/1 chance on that occasion, it is difficult to see him figuring in this race. Similarly Shellin Hill and Dunraven, who have performed creditably in low-grade events, will need one or too mishaps to befall the market leaders in order for them to score. Our selection is Pertino. Malcolm Jefferson's novice had been keeping company with decent Northern novices in the early part of the season and he had a difficult task in trying to concede 12lbs to Fiori in his last start. There is little of that calibre in this race and he remains one to keep on the right side of.
