Verdict

Some decent stayers face the starter in this Listed handicap, including last year's first and second Ouzbeck and Brooklyn Brownie. Malcolm Jefferson's veteran is 3lb better off for a head defeat 12 months ago so should turn the tables, though he never got competitive on his latest start at Perth. Last month's Cork third The Last Derby is interesting as he finished third over this trip in October, while Simply Smashing has been in grand form over hurdles and fences lately and it would be no surprise to see a prominent showing from Gone To Lunch. Jeremy Scott's 11-year-old was second in the 2010 Scottish National and seventh in the same race at Ayr earlier this year. Sea Wall and Presentandcorrect are possibles nearer the foot of the handicap but DOM D'ORGEVAL was put away after winning over an extended trip at Haydock in April to wait for this. He's always had a touch of class and connections' patience can be rewarded this afternoon. Ballyvesey is back over a more suitable distance after three runs over 3m in the spring and should also make his presence felt.
