In depth

Verdict

Monksford lines up in search of a hat-trick and is selected over High Action, Kingkohler and Bolshoi Ballet. Monksford has hit a rich vein of form lately, with back-to-back successes at Chepstow and Newton Abbot this month. Neither were great races, but he could be just that bit ahead of the handicapper at present and can make the most of the weight that he receives from Kingkohler. The latter will come on for his second to Transit at Perth where he was the only one to test the winner. Kevin Morgan's inmate had been rested since the end of March so that was a good effort, and if he did not have topweight here, would have been the selection, as he will be suited by the ground. High Action carries a seven-pound penalty for making a winning handicap debut at Wetherby on Thursday, and may struggle soon if running well here. Bolshoi Ballet was a beaten favourite at Wetherby ten days ago but ran quite well to be fourth behind Archias. All those mentioned can play a part, but we shall stick with Monksford to complete the treble.
