In depth

Verdict

Pocketwood showed improved form when chasing home Lady Songbird at Newbury last month but a 3lb rise since then leaves him with more to do and preference is for the hat trick-seeking Royal Premier, with Charmatic rated the pick of the remainder. The selection has done everything asked of him of late and looks capable of following up his recent successes at Yarmouth and Goodwood having been raised just 4lbs for his most recent win. Emma Lavelle's True Companion ran better at Newbury last time but may prefer a softer surface, while Ocean Avenue disappointed here last time and may now be best watched. Love Always may do better than last time on a more suitable surface today but more solid claims are probably held by Charmatic who has ran well in both starts this term. Royal Premier has done little wrong of late though and is taken to win again.
