In depth

Verdict

Department Of War started out with a victory on good to soft at Nottingham then finished last of three in a Listed contest and disappointed when favourite at Ripon. Fitzsimmons wasn't fancied on his debut at Lingfield last month and never really got serious but should have come on for the run though probably not enough to see off ROCK EAGLE (NAP). Ralph Beckett's charge made a successful debut over this track and trip before just failing to concede 7lb to Dive For Gold at Salisbury. Imperial Court showed promise at Leicester and can get into contention while Jaquar is related to five winners and is one to note on his belated debut.
